Digestive Issues:

     1.  Nutritional Needs:  acid reflux, gum problems, probiotics, constipation, malnutrition, mood swings, diverticula.

     2.  pH:  includes importance of, systemic low pH, maintaining normal pH, pH testing.

     3.  Candida

     4.  Leaky Gut Syndrome

     5.  Parasites

     6.  Systemic Uric Acid

 Using this Page:

1.    TEST YOURSELF:  This heading shows ways to test if you have symptoms of this condition.

2.    HELP YOURSELF:  This heading shows ways you can TEMPORARILY relieve this problem.  However, if this problem continues, you probably have an infection.

3.  TEST THIS YOURSELF:  This heading shows ways to test if I am right.

4.  Topic words are underlined in paragraphs lacking blue or red type for ease of scanning.

5.  The organs, glands and systems talked about are blue.  The medical terminology that might be used to label the conditions, problems or infections talked about are red, for example:

Medical doctors separate the body into discrete parts and label each condition or problem, for example gout.  Holistic doctors, however, view the body as an interdependent whole with each part dependent upon and supporting the other parts.  Therefore, instead of a label such as gout, a holistic doctor would say there are high uric acid levels throughout the body, which is usually caused by systemic pH being too low for too long, fostering bacteria, virus, parasites and infection.  The thyroid stepped in to help the adrenals fight infections and eventually turned down metabolism.  A slowed metabolism means everything slows down, including brain function, reaction time and the ability of the body to remove as much uric acid, which tends to pool in the lower extremities, like the large toe (See Digestive heading).

6.  Many paragraphs refer to other headings in an effort to avoid duplication

1.  Passing gas is a symptom of a disordered gut with insufficient probiotics to help you digest your food.  The pH in a normal digestive system starts alkaline in the mouth to help keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy.  The normal healthy stomach is very acidic in order to break down food.  Then as food moves through the small intestines to the anus, the pH gradually becomes alkaline again.  Until you can move your first morning urine pH to above an absolute minimum of 6. so that the probiotics you ingest can live, procreate and thrive in your intestines daily take:

     A.  1/4 teaspoon of a good prebiotic like Garden of Life's Primal Defense, which can eventually repopulate

          your gut with probiotics or:

     B.  An additional good probiotic capsule.  Depending upon the quality of the probiotic, your weight and

the condition of your gut, you may need as many as one to three per meal.) or

     C.  A tablespoon of kefir with each meal (Preferably Lifeway original with no added fruit or sugar).

     D.  Build up slowly to drinking 1/2 to 3/4 of your weight in ounces daily.  This will make it easier for you to

empty your bowels.  Do not be surprised if your bowels are quite loose at first.  This is a good cheap

way to help your body begin to clean itself out.  But cleaning out never ends unless we clean up what

we are putting in our bodies.  (See Anti-Aging heading.)

2. Eating ginger or drinking ginger tea temporarily helps an upset stomach.  You can also chop about ½ teaspoon of ginger or garlic very fine.  Put it into a small amount of liquid and chug it.  Chugged garlic is not supposed to leave garlic breath.  But if you feel it does leave garlic breath, simply take a parsley capsule.

3.     Steamed okra (or prepared on a stove as in the Cook heading) not breaded and fried - is the most soothing and reparative food for the skin of the stomach and intestines.  Raw avocado also helps too.

4.      Fermented food is the easiest food to digest for those who have had sections of their intestines removed or for those with serious intestinal problems.  (See paragraph 6 in the Cook heading for preparation.)

5.    Chewing fresh parsley or swallowing a dried parsley capsules is a temporary SYMPTOM aid for bad breath and (one or 2 more parsley capsules for) sour stomach.  However, bad breath is a symptom of a disordered digestive system or infected teeth and/or gums.

6.    Snoring is also a symptom of a disordered digestive system.  Sleep on your side with a pillow at your back until you get your digestive system back on track.

The body is like a thick straw with the organs, muscles and bones between two layers of skin on the outside AND INSIDE of the straw.  The inside of the straw is the digestive system, which begins with the mouth and ends with the anus.  Like a car assembly line, the digestive system can get clogged up at any point along the line.  For example, if the frame of a car is not completed properly and on time, the wheels or the doors might not attach properly.  If the stomach does not break medium sized pieces of food into small pieces of food, the small intestine cannot break small pieces of food into pieces tiny enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream.  The bloodstream can only deliver to the rest of the cells of the body whatever is put into it.  If the small intestine is unable to prepare much food to put into the bloodstream, the food just stays in the small intestine, clogging up the assembly line called the digestive system and causing malnutrition.

Bloating, gas, heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, snoring, waking up for no reason, headache and fatigue - WHEN THEY FIRST BEGIN - can simply be symptoms of the intestines not having all that they need for good digestion:  oil, water, salt, enzymes, HCL, probiotics and bulk.

1.    Oil:  1/2 teaspoon cod liver oil and two to three teaspoons of olive oil, coconut oil or organic butter per day is needed and normally used in cooking food.  All raw greens should by accompanied by oil (See Oils heading).

2.    Water:  Fluid is needed in order to easily move food through the intestines.  Also, the large intestine is the body’s fluid reservoir.  When any part of the body needs fluid - like the adrenals - the blood picks up fluid and takes it to where it is needed.  (See Fatigue heading for adrenal needs).

3.    Salt:  It is the chlorine in salt that provides the chloride in the hydrochloric acid that the stomach uses to break down food, particularly protein, into small pieces.  Children two to five years old should have ½ teaspoon of SEA salt daily.  Active children six to ten years old should have ¾ teaspoon daily.  A teaspoon of SEA salt per day is usually sufficient for adults up to 150 pounds.  However, any additional processed salt in prepared canned or boxed food can mean an excess of salt.  Food begins to lose its nutritional value as soon as Mother Nature’s seal is broken - when food is cut or prepared - so there is much less nutritional value in canned and boxed food.  (See Cook and Anti-Aging headings for easier, faster and more nutritional ways to prepare meals than even opening a can or a box).

Exercise, sweating, high activity and hotter weather require more sea salt (See Salt section in Fatigue heading).

HELP YOURSELF:  Pinworms, thrush and hair loss in a child can be resolved by adding SEA salt to the diet.

4.    Enzymes are used in hundreds of chemical reactions within the body, including digestion and liver detoxification.  Enzymes activate muscles, stimulate nerves, make the heart beat, keep you breathing, help you think, and help you break down food into packages tiny enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream.  A lack of enzymes eventually affects the entire digestive system, inhibiting the absorption of vitamins and minerals within the intestines.

Because cooking food destroys ALL enzymes, the more cooked food we eat the more strain we put on our enzyme producing organs - the salivary glands, stomach, pancreas and small intestines - causing worn out and damaged cells which:

A.    Cannot produce sufficient enzymes needed for the digestive process.

B.    Are unable to repair the damage because of the ongoing strain.

C.    Become susceptible to invasion by yeast, bacteria and parasites.

D.    Requires more food to be eaten raw, because raw food contains sufficient enzymes to digest itself.

Cooking food also leaches all of the minerals and most of the B vitamins into the water used for cooking (See Processed section in Budget heading).  WELL FUNCTIONING intestines do, however, manufacture B vitamins, which are required for healthy, well functioning adrenals and liver to fight infection, supply energy and detoxify the body.  The ultimate enzyme therapy, therefore, is eating mostly raw food.  Mostly raw food means mostly vegetables - not mostly fruit, which has fructose, a sugar, and is also often highly pesticide sprayed.  But this is very difficult for many people - especially Vata body types.  However, almost everyone can drink a raw food smoothie (See Smoothie heading).  And if you cannot eat raw food, you can take digestive enzymes.

TEST YOURSELF:  Take a digestive enzyme capsule with each meal and a probiotic capsule daily with your largest meal for a month or two.  Then stop taking them.  If the intestinal problem subsides when you take the probiotic and digestive enzymes but returns when you do not, there is a high probability that you have an infection in your intestines.  Taking probiotics and digestive enzymes can temporarily help the symptoms of an intestinal problem, but taking probiotics and enzymes indefinitely is ignoring the problem in the intestines - which allows the problem to continually worsen.  Neither probiotics nor enzymes are anti-infectives.

5.    HCL:  The acidity - pH - of the stomach is normally 1.0, which is very acidic.  This highly acidic environment, provided normally by two liters of hydrochloric acid daily, serves two purposes:

A.    It begins the digestion of the food we eat, especially protein, calcium, magnesium and Vitamin B12.

B.    It kills ingested parasite eggs/cysts and bacteria before they have a chance to get into the blood and move throughout the body.

Acid Reflux: When the stomach is NOT sufficiently acidic, food is not digested enough to leave the stomach and continue on to the small intestine.  Therefore, the pyloric sphincter between the stomach and the small intestine cramps, keeping the food in the stomach - where it begins to rot.  Putrefaction bacteria thrive in food that remains too long in the body.  Putrefaction bacteria produce their own lactic acid gaseous byproducts, which can result in:

A.      Acid indigestion.

B.      Reflux - GERD.  Because gas is light in weight, it rises - resulting in acid reflux.

C.      Ulcers by eating away at the stomach and intestinal wall.  Digestive wall ulcers provide opportunity for yeast, bacteria and parasites.

It is not the stomach’s natural hydrochloric acid that results in ulcers and acid reflux, but rotting food as a result of insufficient hydrochloric acid.  Taking pills to get rid of acid in the stomach neutralize ALL stomach acids - including the stomach’s natural hydrochloric acid - which ultimately makes the situation worse.

When HCL Run Low, Stomach pH Rises.

When the pH of the stomach is MORE than 5.0:

A.     The stomach is unable to prompt the pancreas and gallbladder to deposit digestion-aiding enzymes into the duodenum, the upper part of the small intestine just after the stomach. A normally functioning pancreas produces protease and trypsin for protein digestion, amylase for starch digestion, and lipase for fat digestion.  A normally functioning gallbladder produces bile to emulsify fats and neutralize stomach acids, which raises the pH of the small intestine.

B.    The stomach is unable to digest calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium and Vitamin B12.

Every cell in the body has a calcium/magnesium pump to take in nutrients and get rid of waste products.  When the body cannot digest calcium, it must rob the alkaline minerals that it needs from muscle and bone.  The body will also then store any ingested calcium that it is unable to digest - anything other than ionized, live source calcium - with the hope that it can dissolve the stored calcium later when the pH of the body improves (See Calcium Use section under Bone heading).

C.     The digestive system assembly line malfunctions:

The stomach is unable to break down medium sized pieces of food into small pieces of food.  Then the small intestine cannot break the medium to small pieces of food into pieces of food tiny enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream.  The bloodstream can only deliver to the rest of the cells of the body what it has been able to absorb - promoting malnutrition.

Eventually the rotting food in the stomach oozes into the small intestine.  Faced with an oozing mass, instead of discrete, smaller separate pieces of food:

i.   Malnutrition results - no matter what or how much the individual eats or weighs.  Nutrition cannot be delivered to the rest of the cells of the body when the small intestine cannot break food into pieces tiny enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream for delivery.

ii.  The pH in the intestines becomes acidic, which invites parasites, bacteria and Candida.

iii.    The probiotics in the intestines that help us digest the food we eat cannot survive in a more acidic environment.

iv.   The intestines produce a lubricant - mucous - to help move the oozing mass along and protect the intestinal lining.  However, intestinal mucous makes it even more difficult for nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream to be carried to the rest of the cells of the body - which can result in further malnutrition.

D.      Gum problems often develop, because gum problems are a sign of:

i.         Low HCL.

ii.        Circulating bacteria, which a stomach pH of less than 5.0 would have killed upon its entry into the body through the mouth.

iii.      Bone loss, caused by the body stealing from bone because of a loss of HCL.

When a body cannot produce enough digestive enzymes or does not consume enough enzymes in raw food, that body must use HCL to digest food.  However, HCL’s main purpose is NOT to digest food.  Enzymes and probiotics were intended for that.  HCL’s main purpose was originally to be a natural anti-infectant.  HCL is trimethylglycene, which is three life-sustaining methyl groups that are now being used up to digest food.  These methyl groups can, however, be replaced once the digestive system is healthy enough to supplement with encapsulated food-based betaine (beet derived) HCL.  When there is infection in the digestive system and/or interference fields reflecting to the stomach, taking HCL usually causes stomach upset.  QRA testing is then needed to find and help the body to rid itself of infection and find the areas that need to be mudpacked.

6.    Probiotics:  WE ARE WHAT WE ARE ABLE TO ABSORB - digest.  If our intestines cannot absorb/digest the food we eat, we begin to show the symptoms of starvation and yet we could be very fat.  But if our intestines are healthy and we feed ourselves white flour and/or sugar, pesticide sprayed fruit and veggies and meat filled with hormones, we can suffer from a toxin filled body and a low pH which makes the body a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, viruses and parasites.  The normal healthy human intestines optimally have over a dozens different kinds of probiotics totaling over over 700 probiotics to help us digest the food we eat.

The metabolic activity performed by intestinal bacteria has led some authorities to liken intestinal microorganisms to a “forgotten” organ.  Research also suggests that the human body has a symbiotic relationship with its intestinal flora.  The intestinal flora cannot live outside of us for long.  And although we do seem to be able to live without probiotics, we are certainly not in excellent health without them.  Probiotics:

A.       Help our bodies to digest/absorb water, starch, fiber, beans, sugars, calcium, magnesium and iron.

B.       Promote the production of vitamins, such as biotin, folate and vitamin K.

C.       Prevent the growth of harmful pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

D.       Promote the early development and function of the intestinal mucosal immune system by stimulating the lymphoid tissue to produce antibodies to pathogens.  Children with allergies have been shown to have lowered amounts of Bacteroides and Bifidobacteria strains of probiotics.  Colostrum is recommended for six to twelve months for individuals that were not breastfed.

E.       Produce hormones that direct the body to store fats.  Rodents raised in a sterile environment and lacking probiotics need to eat 30% more calories just to remain the same weight as their normal counterparts.

F.       Ferment unused energy substrates.

99% of the probiotics in the normal healthy human intestines consist of about 30 to 40 different species of probiotic.  Read ingredient labels to learn how many strains of probiotics - with different names - are contained in the products that you wish to help you replace probiotics in your intestines.  Most brands of yogurt have but one strain of probiotic.  The best way to repopulate the intestines with probiotics is with:

A.      Some probiotics can survive the journey through the acidic stomach.  ANY PROBIOTICS TAKEN WHEN THE INTESTINES’ PH IS NOT OPTIMAL NEEDS TO BE REPLENISHED DAILY - BECAUSE PROBIOTICS CANNOT LIVE IN A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT - too acidic or too alkaline.

B.      An excellent PREbiotic like Garden of Life’s Primal Defense.  However, prebiotics and probiotics really work best together.  Prebiotics lay groundwork that allow probiotics to survive in a hostile environment longer.

C.      When there is an infection in the intestines coupled with money constraints, I always opt for clients to take probiotics in food - which is naturally able to survive the journey through the stomach.  Use 1/8 to  to 1/4 cup of plain Lifeway Kefir per meal - that has no sugar or fruit with sugar/fructose to feed Candida - or half of a teaspoon of Yamabuki miso per day.

7.    Bulk - fiber:  Muscular contractions of the intestines move food along the 23 to 27-foot length of the intestines.  If there is little fiber in the food in the intestines, there is no bulk for the muscular contractions to push against, resulting in food moving very slowly through the intestines.  The slower food moves through the intestines, the harder the food becomes - causing constipation, actual blockage and/or an environment friendly to many kinds of unfriendly bacteria, fungi/Candida yeast and parasites.

If you watched three trains enter a tunnel but saw no trains exit the other end of the tunnel, wouldn’t you be worried about what was happening inside the tunnel?  The intestines are a 25-foot tunnel.  We should have as many bowel movements per day as we have normal-sized meals.  It is of utmost important to keep the intestines clean.  Build up on prune juice.  Start with one ounce each morning and build up one more ounce every four to five days, until your bowels movements are comfortable.  If you need to take more than three ounces per day, you may prefer to split the dose to a.m. and p.m.

TEST YOURSELF:  Examine your tongue closely in a mirror.  There should NOT be a white coating on the tongue.  The tongue should be a nice, pleasant pink, like the rosy glow of healthy cheeks.  The condition of the tongue tells a lot about the condition of the skin inside the body from the mouth to the anus.  We really should NOT need to scrape the tongue to get a white coating off.  And doesn't it seem a little silly anyway to scrape the tongue and not scrape or scrub the intestines also?  After all, the intestines are much more important to health than the tongue.  We normally scrape clean our digestive tract with the fiber in the raw food that we eat.

Constipation:  Processed/white flour and water make excellent glue for children’s paper projects.  If you shoved processed flour and water into a one-inch diameter, 25-foot PVC pipe daily or even every other day for a few years, do you think anything would be coming out the other end?  So, if processed flour and liquid has been put daily or even every other day into 25-foot intestines year after year, is it really surprising that the intestines have clogged up?

The most acidic food is processed food, especially processed - white - flour and processed - white - sugar.  The problem with processed flour is that the processing strips each wheat kernel of its nutrients - the germ - and its fiber - the bran.  Thus, processed flour not only has no nutrients, it also has no bulk to help move itself along in the intestines.  The nutrients from processed flour and sugar - vitamins, minerals and enzymes - that were removed during processing are sold as animal food, molasses, wheat bran and wheat germ.  Eating a lot of acidic food, mainly processed grain and sugar as well as meat, quickly uses up the stomach’s HCL, any stored enzymes and B vitamins.  The body must then rob enzymes from the immune system and minerals from teeth and bones in order to continue to digest acidic food, like processed flour and sugar.

Yes.  We can buy wheat bread and cereals that are brown and processed so that they are light in weight.  These processed breads and cereals may have NO whole wheat at all or merely a smidgen of bran.  Don’t be fooled!  Read ingredient labels.  READ INGREDIENT LABELS.  READ INGREDIENT LABELS!  If an ingredient label contains words you cannot pronounce or do not recognize, say:  ‘No thank you.  I love my body and my health too much to eat you.’  The name or heading of the bread may say wheat bread or even whole grain cereal, but the heading is merely telling us that there is SOME SMALL amount of wheat or whole grain within the product.  The ingredient label of bread made with unprocessed whole grain will say just that at the top of the INGREDIENT LABEL - 100% WHOLE GRAIN.  Wheat flour” is white flour - it is not rye flour or rice flour.

If highly heated bread products are a must for you, I recommend Ezekiel or Food for Life’s sprouted grain bread, tortillas and bagels.  You can find these in Whole Foods Market, and they do freeze well.  I have also recently found three different 100% whole grain breads at Costco that test strong.  One of them even contains sprouted grain, and it tastes really good too!  The processed - white - bread of today is not the staff of life.  The "staff of life" in days of yore was 100% whole grain flour cooked on hot bricks in the sun at a maximum of 120 degrees.  Today’s processed breads - brag about being cooked at 480 degrees.

1.       Cut the crust off of one slice of your bread.  Roll half of the bread slice into a ball between the palms of your hands.  How tight of a ball were you able to make?  Now cut the crust off of one slice of Ezekiel or any 100% whole grain bread (on the ingredient label), and roll half of that slice into a ball.  You will find that you cannot.  The ball just falls apart.

2.       Now take the other half of the first bread slice.  Grind it back into flour with a pestle and add a tiny bit of water - just enough water to make it gluey.  Spread the glue you made between two pieces of paper, and leave it alone for a couple of days to dry well.  Then see if you can pull the two pieces of paper apart without tearing them.  Do the same with the other half slice of any 100% whole grain bread (on the ingredient label).  It will separate easily.

Malnutrition:  Processed - white - flour and processed - white - sugar are NEGATIVE FOODS, because it takes more enzymes and B vitamins to digest processed flour and sugar than they contain.  Don’t get me wrong.  Processed flour and sugar have lots of calories, but they have worse than no nutrition.  In America being overweight is a common sign of malnutrition.  Malnutrition has more to do with quality than quantity of food in America as well as the state of the digestive system.  This is why in an industrial society, well fed often also means malnourished.  A body that is starved of nutrients is easily invaded and overrun by bacteria, parasites, Candida and viruses.  Malnutrition can result in many serious problems, including heart disease, adrenal exhaustion, low thyroid, hypoglycemia and diabetes - the ultimate eating disorder.

Mood Swings: It takes SEVEN SECONDS for processed white flour to turn into glucose in the stomach.  Thus, processed sugar AND processed flour both give a sugar high - rush of quick energy - followed by low energy, which makes us want more sugar and/or processed flour.  Satisfying sugar cravings easily leads to a low pH, mood swings, inattention, memory difficulties and depression.

Glucose is sugar.  Thus, a processed flour breakfast cereal with milk or soy and sugar is about the worst thing anyone can put into their body.  Soy milk is highly processed and, unless organic, is nearly always genetically modified.  Milk is cooked, so the calcium is unusable (See Bone heading). Consider that eating processed - white - flour is functionally worse than weighing the flour and eating that amount of white sugar instead.  Processed flour provides the mood swings of processed sugar with the added problem of gumming up the intestines.

Diverticula:  The body works very hard to maintain a clear path from the mouth to the anus.  When processed flour clogs up the intestines, our miraculous bodies make closets along the digestive assembly line in which to store gluey months or years old decaying food so that it can maintain a flow from mouth to anus.  These closets are called diverticula, which are Pandora’s boxes of decaying matter.  Over the years diverticula get packed full and hard and then become infected.  However, diverticula can be slowly and carefully cleaned out and shrunk once the infections are gone.

Importance of a Normal pH

One very old and very basic precept of naturopathy is that death begins in the colon/large intestine.  It sounds overly simplistic to say that keeping the colon healthy will keep the entire body healthy; but it is basically true.  Think:  digestion.  Digestion.  Digestion!  For example, we all see older people who have become quite thin - because their digestion has become so poor that no matter what they eat, they are unable to digest or absorb their food/fuel.

The key to radiant health is to keep the natural first morning urine pH between 6.0 and 7.0 at ALL times from birth - without using vinegar or mineral baths to move pH (See Bone heading).  When unassisted - natural - pH drops below 6.0 at any time, bacteria, fungi, parasites and virus find an inviting environment in which to thrive.  Exactly how well bacteria, fungi, parasites and virus thrive depends heavily upon how acidic their environment is.  However, when bacteria, fungi, parasites or virus are present in the body, it is very hard to bring pH up above 6.0.  QRA testing is needed to find and help the body to rid itself of infection.

A low pH invites yeast, bacteria and parasites into the body, which can very easily result in:

A.    Extensive intestinal inflammation and damage, making it difficult to digest anything at all.

B.    Systemic yeast, which includes the toes and vagina.

C.    Memory difficulties from the explosion of toxins which the body prefers to store in fat, like the brain and breast tissue. (See Brain heading for more information.

TEST YOURSELF:  Get a pH strip from a pharmacy or a health care practitioner.  Tear off a small strip.  Urinate into a cup.  Dip the pH strip into the cup, and compare the color of your pH strip with the colors on the pH strip cover.  This test will not work if you are taking vinegar by mouth or are taking magnesium baths.  Vinegar and magnesium are good for us, but they invalidate this simple way to test the pH of the whole body.  Wait at least ten days after taking vinegar or a mineral bath to test your systemic pH.

Systemic, Whole Body, Low pH

People who have lost the acidity in their stomachs for a number of years begin to lose their taste for protein, show calcium and B12 deficiency symptoms and have various difficulties within their digestive system as well as other parts of their bodies.  A highly acidic digestive system eventually cycles into systemic whole body low pH.

The human body - except the stomach for the purpose of digestion - is normally a slightly alkaline system that creates acidic waste products which must be removed.  The blood must be kept slightly alkaline in order to buffer these acidic waste products moving through the blood during the removal process.  If food does not deliver alkaline products to the blood, the body steals alkaline minerals - mainly calcium - from bone to buffer the blood (See Bone heading).  If the acids generated by the body exceed its blood alkalizing ability, THE STAGE IS SET FOR DISEASE.  Individuals with a natural pH above 7.0 have become so systemically acidic that they are now buffering their blood with ammonia, which can be smelled in the urine.

All chronic degenerative diseases begin with and are fed by infection.  Further, every disease - mild or chronic - has its base in whole body acidity (or much less likely in a healthy body, disease can be fed by metal - which is very highly acidic - hiding in bone and leaking out in an effort to heal.  See Heavy Metal Poisoning under Memory heading.), for example, fatigue, recurring headaches, constipation, general aches and pains, colds, flu, sluggishness, food sensitivities, frequent infections, slowed metabolism, nighttime muscle cramps, allergies, asthma, bronchitis, chronic indigestion, stiff joints, bursitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, immune deficiency, heart disease and cancer.  Brain function is also impaired when the metabolism of lactic acid, oxygen, phosphorus, potassium and/or glucose is not within acceptable limits.  Over 53% of Americans are chronically ill, which means they have infections and are, therefore, very acidic.  Raising pH in a very acidic system means using QRA muscle testing to seek out and help the body to eliminate all infections using premium quality herbs.

If the entire body has become too acidic, the body will store excess acid in fatty tissue - like the breast, brain and abdominal tumors - so that the more crucial organs and muscles are less harmed.  When there is insufficient fatty tissue, the fatty tissue is full or there is prior trauma or injury to an organ, muscle or bone tissue, that tissue becomes the next site to store toxins.

The main acidifiers of the human body are:

1.      Toxic burden.  In 20 years - from 1964 to 1984 - the amount of pesticides sprayed on food per year doubled to one billion pounds in America.  The average American eats his weight in toxic food additives every year.

2.      Acid forming foods.  The three most acidic foods are processed flour, processed sugar and animal protein.  But don't stop eating animal protein!  QRA testing shows that most people's bodies prefer animal protein to vegetable protein.  An adult healthy body can often for a few years survive on simply vegetable protein - mostly leafy green vegetables.  A child and a chronically ill person must have animal protein.  Protein is the only food that builds and repairs the body.  And red meat provides lots of iron to build red blood cells that carry oxygen to all parts of the body to help us breathe better and raise our oxygen level.  For every tenth we raise our pH, we have ten times as much oxygen available to the body.  Disease cannot survive in a highly oxygenated body.

3.       Ongoing high stress.

Maintaining pH

In order to raise pH, all infections will need to be removed.  AND the HCL that has been used up digesting cooked food - which has no enzymes to digest itself - will need to be replaced.  However, most chronically ill people are unable to take HCL capsules without stomach upset because of a build up of toxins in their bodies.  QRA testing will need to hunt down any interference fields reflecting to the stomach, and these interference fields will need to be mudpacked so that HCL can be ingested without stomach upset.  However, often many other sites on the body must be mudpacked first to avoid detox symptoms when the key interference fields are mudpacked (See Pain heading).  Maintaining pH after all infections in the body have been removed is a matter of not eating an overload of acidic food.

The healthier we become, the higher our energy level.  The higher our energy level, the better we feel.  If health is the goal, maintaining a first morning urine pH between an absolute minimum of 6.0 and up to 7.0 is the path - with 6.6 as ideal.  While consuming a small amount of vinegar daily, taking mineral baths and a usable form of calcium are good for us, they mask true pH.  A sustained unmasked first morning urine pH between 6.3 and 7.0 means:

1.    We are feeling great and full of energy with no mood swings or susceptibility to colds or disease.

2.    The body easily absorbs calcium and other minerals and nutrients (See Bone heading).

3.    The body is cancer, tumor and Candida free.  Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in 1932 for proving that cancer needs an oxygen poor environment in order to thrive.  For each tenth that we are able to move pH up, the body gets ten times more oxygen available to the cells - for example, moving pH from 5.2 to 5.3.

4.    The body is too alkaline for bacteria, parasites or virus to set up housekeeping for very long.  The stomach is sufficiently acidic to digest protein.  Parasite cysts/eggs and bacteria are protein.

A urine pH taken OTHER THAN early morning before eating or drinking merely tells us about the food that has been eaten and the activity level.  A first morning urine pH tells us more about the state of the digestive tract than saliva pH does.  From 1997 to 2007 the pH of the average American dropped from 5.75 to 5.25.  That represents a 50 fold drop in oxygen available to the tissue.  During that same ten years, the incidence of cancer and heart disease rose sharply.

HELP YOURSELF:  We can consistently superoxygenate our blood daily by exercising, deep breathing, eating or drinking raw greens and chewing food well.  But if there are any infections in the body, the results will be minimized and temporary.  Temporary relief helps to fix the SYMPTOM of a problem - not the problem itself.

A.      Exercise:  Depending upon the length and depth of the exertion, we can raise pH for 10 minutes to several hours.  However, chronically ill people are usually not able to perform much exercise.  (See Immune heading for a comparison of exercises from a Hang Up to a treadmill to a Chi Machine).

B.     Deep Breathing:   Also depending upon the length and depth of the deep breathing, we can raise pH for several minutes to several hours.  I often recommend the Transformational Breathing CD at for chronically ill clients, but build up slowly or you can detox too fast (See Anti-Aging heading).  The lungs are a detox organ (See Breathe heading).  Start with one minute three times a week.  If you do not have any detox symptoms, then move to two minutes the next week.  Work up to the full 45 minutes once or twice a week.

C.     Eating or Drinking Raw Greens: Depending upon the amount and frequency of eating or drinking raw, dark colored foods, especially greens, we can move pH up for a few minutes to a few hours.

Eating acid ash foods, e.g., fruit and leafy green vegetables, and acid ash minerals, mainly phosphorus, will over time normalize the digestive tube.  Phosphorus, found in meat, eggs and whole grains, will also speed up metabolism by stimulating the sympathetic nervous system.  The phosphoric acid found in soft drinks, which will dissolve a steak left in it in two days and a nail in four days, is not the same as the phosphorus in grains and some vegetables.

In general eating raw food is alkalizing:  nuts, veggies, fruit, seeds and mushrooms.  But eating cooked and processed food is acidifying:  roasted nuts, meat, beans, grain, pasta, bread, cereal, dairy products, sweets, alcohol and condiments.  If eating raw food is difficult, we can drink a daily smoothie (See Anti-Aging heading).  A very general alkalizing diet is one part by weight protein, one part by weight whole grain or starch - as in squash and yams - and one part by weight green veggies with an occasional fruit for desert.

i.      Strongly alkalize foods are asparagus, all green leafy vegetables - such as spinach, kale, chard, seaweed, parsley, watercress - fresh herbs, melons, dates, figs, kiwis, lemons, limes, pineapples and papayas.

ii.     Mildly alkaline foods are raw apple cider, vinegar ash (when digested), non-green vegetables, vegetable juice, most fruit - other than those named above and below - fruit juice, dried herbs and spices, tofu, miso, sprouted grains, almonds, seeds, beans and raw honey.

iii.    Mildly acidic foods are whole grains, runny yolk eggs, nuts, beans, blueberries, cranberries, plums, prunes, butter and cheese.

iv.   Highly acidic foods are meat, chicken, fish, seafood, eggs, processed grain, white sugar, commercial pickled food and fried food.

D.      Chewing Food Well:  Saliva is alkalizing.  Chew food well to help alkalize acidic foods.

E.      Ionic Calcium, as in Coral Legend, will rapidly realkalize an acidic system.  But you must keep taking the Coral Legend until all infections surrender to the high pH - which can take up to two or three years.  Check your pH when you have not taken the calcium for at least three days.  That is your true natural pH.  Calcium is hard on sick kidneys.  So if your kidneys are weak, use raw leafy greens for your calcium.  Minerals (calcium) and many vitamins go into the water veggies are cooked in.  Use very little water, cook quickly and drink the water (See Cook heading).

F.     Sunlight disinfects the bloodstream through its UV spectrum, turning cholesterol into Vitamin D, which helps to digest calcium.  A minimum of ten minutes is recommended for those who have sufficient Vitamin E - in raw green leafy vegetables, raw seeds, nuts and grain (See Processed section under Budget heading).

G.     Hydration:  (See Constipation heading.)

H.     Vinegar:  A daily teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will also help, and vinegar disposes of guanidine, a fatigue poison.  To get your true pH to check for bone loss, check pH when you have not taken vinegar for at least three days.

I.   The simple truth is that WE CANNOT SKIP THE BASICS:

i.         Putting in essential nutrients, including the herbs the body asks for via QRA to help the body get rid of its infections.

ii.        Pulling toxins out of the body via mudpacks and herbs.

     J.  An intestinal cleanse can provide TEMPORARY relief to disordered intestines, but will NOT raise pH or permanently rid intestines of Candida yeast, bacteria or parasites.  The only way is to get rid of all infections in the gut - as well as their cysts/eggs - so that pH will be easy to maintain above 6.0 is to take herbs and do castor oil packs simultaneously, and I do not recommend doing this without being under the close observation of a well qualified QRA practitioner.  And that means a practitioner who has been in constant practice for at least five years.

Twenty-five to thirty-five percent of Americans suffer from Candida yeast and related fungal conditions.  Common symptoms of systemic, whole body yeast infection are nail fungus, recurring sinus infectionsand mental fog (See Depression heading).  Many more women than men are reported to have yeast infestations, but I suspect this is because yeast infestations can get a foothold in a woman’s vagina before she even knows it is there.  Yeasty vaginal infections can be difficult to get rid of if she:

1.       Has regular sexual contact with a yeast-infested partner.  Changing a partner’s diet is difficult, so protect yourself!

HELP YOURSELFHave him wear a prophylactic - rubber - and do an apple cider vinegar douche - two teaspoons of vinegar in two cups of water - after intercourse to help your body CONTROL (or eradicate, depending upon your pH) vaginal yeast infestations.

2.      Wears panties made of non-natural fibers.  Non-natural fibers like nylon and polyester do not breathe and, therefore, facilitate the survival of yeasty vaginal infections.

Believe it or not, Candida yeast - fungi - is a normal, needed and important inhabitant of the intestines.  Candida is a garbage collector doing its best to gobble up or at least control dead, decaying matter so that the decaying matter does not foster infection.  What would our streets look like if we got rid of our garbage collectors?  Candida is not the problem.  CANDIDA IS THE BODY’S SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.  The question, therefore, is:  What is creating the decaying matter in the intestines?  The answer is usually parasites.  Gas-forming organisms like fungi and Candida yeast - as well as tumors and cancer - thrive in highly acidic environments.  They cannot survive in a systemic alkaline pH environment!  They feed and grow on sugar.  So, when they inhabit our bodies, we crave sugar.

A Candida yeast infection usually begins with killing the probiotics that require an alkaline pH and that should be in the gut to help digest our food.  I have read that it only takes three courses of antibiotics within two years to destroy the immune tissue in the lymph nodes, like taking antibiotics for severe and recurring ear infections.  Antibiotics killALLbacteria, including probiotics.  Antibiotics, however, do NOT destroy Candida yeast and other fungi.  Therefore, antibiotics actually stimulate yeast and fungi to proliferate by killing off the friendly bacteria, which creates a void that Candida yeast quickly fills.  If you feel you must take antibiotics, accompany them with ¼ cup of unsweetened - preferably Lifeway - kefir, ½ teaspoon of miso or one good probiotic capsule per day to replace friendly bacteria.

Eating processed - white - flour and sugar, lowers pH and, therefore, also kills off friendly probiotics, inviting Candida.  Candida craves the food that it needs for life and growth, processed - white - flour and sugar.  And the vicious cycle is complete.  A Candida infestation further lowers intestinal pH, inviting parasites, bacteria and virus.  This is why eating processed - white - flour and sugar is so highly addictive.  Patients of the ultimate immune system disease, AIDS, typically die of Candida yeast that took over their bodies as they grew weaker.

TEST YOURSELF:  Spit into a cup of water.  If the spit floats, there is no systemic yeast infestation.  Yeast makes saliva - spit - heavy.

HELP YOURSELF:  Switch to consuming complex, unprocessed sweeteners and grain that take longer for the body to process.

1.       In order of preference and for non-diabetics only:  raw turbinado sugar, raw honey, agave, molasses,  and maple syrup.

2.       Grain products that say on the ingredient label “100% whole grain”.

Just as garbage trucks from a well established trash removal company will do a better job removing trash, Candida can do a better job of removing an ongoing large amount of decaying matter in the intestines when Candida roots itself into the intestines.  Facing an overwhelming clean up job, Candida yeast grows long root-like structures that invade and penetrate the intestinal lining.  This is called leaky gut syndrome.  All fungus, including Candida yeast, produces toxic digestive enzyme byproducts called arabinose and tartaric acid.  These enzymes can breakdown intestinal lining, allowing the toxic byproducts, incompletely digested food, and fecal matter to be absorbed into the intestines and released into the bloodstream.

The blood’s job is to pick up toxins and take them to the liver.  The liver sends the toxins through the gallbladder and back into the intestines for removal - and again a vicious cycle is complete.  This is how intestinal issues overwhelm the immune system and the secondary detox organs - the kidneys, lungs and skin - causing headaches, food sensitivities, allergies, skin rash and breathing problems.  The blood then circulates trying to find the least toxic place to store these toxins.  Toxins stored in bones make bones fragile.   Toxins stored in muscles make muscles sore, so the body in its infinite wisdom prefers to store toxins in fat.  Brain and breast tissue are more than 60% fat.  These toxins are so tiny they are able to penetrate the blood brain barrier and attach to areas of the brain that regulate behavior control, memory and speech, causing difficulties in these areas.

Parasites are at the root of many major illnesses.  Dr. Huls, a now deceased osteopathic doctor, repeatedly told his students that at the core of cancer he ALWAYS found a parasitic infection.  Medical doctors report that up to 80% of Americans may have some form of parasitic infection.  And studies show that 35% of all children attending daycare centers contract giardia.  However, up until very recently, it was very difficult for the medical world to diagnose parasitic infections - with an active parasitic infection misdiagnosed over 80% of the time.  The most reliable allopathic - M.D. - testing for parasites is DNA testing.  Parasites are the most common problem of the intestines and liver, commonly spreading to the gallbladder, pancreas and spleen.  Worse yet, parasites lower pH even more with their acidic, toxic waste products, making an environment friendly for bacteria, Candida and virus.

Common Symptoms of Parasites

1.    Frequent colds and flu.

2.    Insomnia (especially in the early morning), night sweats and nightmares.

3.    Nervousness, irritability and fingernail biting.

4.    Fatigue, anemia and B12 deficiency (See Fatigue heading).

5.    Mental fog, depression and learning challenges.

6.    Difficulty losing or gaining weight and anorexia.  Parasite excrement is a toxin, preferably stored in fat.  Parasitic infections cause weight gain from the storage of parasite excrement; and as the parasitic infestation worsens, it causes weight loss from having to feed so many parasites - particularly in those who do not eat enough animal protein.  Candida feeds on sugar, but parasites feed on protein.

HELP YOURSELF:  If you believe you may have parasites, be sure to eat sufficient animal protein.  Parasites are partial to red meat.  Individuals with parasites can overeat veggies and still be hungry, because the parasites are still hungry.

7.    Environmental allergies, dizziness, puffy face, ear infections, blurred vision, teeth grinding, persistent skin rash, shortness of breath, coughing, COPD, chest pain and heart disease.

8.    Food sensitivities, indigestion, gas, ulcers, bloating, nausea, constipation, diarrhea and burning or cramping - that come and go, no matter what you eat.  Crohn’s Disease, Celiac Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome - IBS - have long been shown by holistic practitioners to have their root cause in parasitic infection and its partner in crime, Candida yeast.

How Do We Get Parasites?

Most parasites enter through the mouth at will via the food we eat when the person who prepared the food:

1.    Has parasites.

2.    Did not wash his or her hands after he or she visited the bathroom.

3.    Did not wear gloves to prepare the food.

4.    Had microscopic parasite ‘eggs’ on his or her hands.

However, a healthy body with a natural pH CONSTANTLY above 6.0 will not get parasites, because the acid in this individual’s stomach is sufficiently low to digest protein.  Parasite eggs are protein.  Thus the critical answer to how we get parasites is:  how did we lower our pH?  And the answer to how we lowered our pH is commonly that at some time in our lives we ate the Standard American Diet, which is its acronym, SAD, because it:

1.       Has very low nutrition (See Cook and Anti-Aging headings).

A.      All enzymes (needed in over 100 processes in the body) and most of the B vitamins, essential to the adrenals and liver detox, are lost when food is cooked (See Fatigue and Cook headings).

B.      All minerals are removed and lost in the water used in cooking.  Minerals are essential to all cells of the body, digestion and bone health (See Bone and Cook headings).

2.       Contains highly acidic processed - white - flour and sugar that clogs up the intestines, fosters mood swings and lowers pH, creating an environment friendly to Candida yeast, bacteria, parasites and virus (See Brain heading).

3.       Contains hydrogenated oil - any cooked Omega 6 oil, which is any oil other than coconut oil, olive oil and butter. Good oils are most necessary to the heart, brain, skin inside and outside of the body and every single cell’s membrane in the body.

HELP YOURSELF:  There are cleanses on the market which (if they are honest) say that they help to CONTROL parasites, and the good ones will kill HATCHED parasites.  But parasite eggs can live in the intestines for up to 18 months to hatch later when you have ceased taking the cleanse.  Castor oil packs must be done at the same time as taking anti-parasitic herbs, because the castor oil packs will force any parasite eggs to hatch.  Therefore, it is extremely unwise to do castor oil packs on the intestines, stomach, liver, gallbladder, spleen or pancreas, unless you are under the care of an excellent QRA practitioner.  Too much anti-parasitic herbs can make you sick by causing a lot of simultaneous die off.  And too little anti-parasitic herbs will just make the parasites angry, which can also make you sick.

The preference of the body is to process all toxins through the liver.  A normally functioning liver eliminates three to seven ounces of waste products daily through the intestines.  If the liver is overburdened, the body enlists the kidneys, lungs and skin to detox.  The kidneys process toxins into uric acid, which isreleased daily as 45 to 50 ounces of urine.  Cell waste products - carbonic acid - are placed into the blood and carried to the lungs, which normally exhale 25 to 33 ounces of waste per day.  The skin eliminates waste products daily as 12 to 17 ounces of perspiration.

When the thyroid slows the body’s metabolic rate in an effort to assist exhausted adrenals, uric acid- a metabolic waste product - builds up in the body.  Too much uric acid in the body causes blood to lose its power to dissolve and neutralize acidic food, like processed flour, processed sugar and animal protein.  A sticky glue-like colloid is formed, which blocks the capillaries so that blood cannot pass readily from the arterial to the venous circulation system.  Blood pressure becomes high in the arteries and internal organs.  At the same time blood pressure is too low at the surface, extremities and venous circulation system.  This irritates nerves and mucous membranes, giving rise to flush, dizziness, headaches, nervousness, neuritis, neuralgia, depression, fainting, gout, seizures, epilepsy, rapid pulse, heart palpitations, angina, joint and muscle pain, arthritis, rheumatism, blocked liver and kidney capillaries and ducts, inflamed lungs, stomach, intestines and genito-urinary organs and brittle blood vessels with danger of hemorrhages.
